Amboy, a city with a rich history, was founded in 1854 as a railroad town and became the division headquarters for the Illinois Central Railroad. The Chicago Burlington and Quincy Railroad also had a station here and for a short time the city had an electric train. Today there are three schools, four churches, a nursing home, five parks, a library, community building, fire department, newpaper, veterinary clinic, a candy factory and excellent eating places.
