Amboy City Park

Picnic areas, shelters, charcoal grills, playground equipment, two lighted ball diamonds, water, electricity and bathrooms are offered at this East Main Street park. 30 sculptured trees are located throughout the park showing the rich heritage of this picturesque community. Five blocks east of Rte. 52. Closed Nov. 1 - Apr. 1.

Franklin Creek State Natural Area

Pictured is the scenic Mill Springs Trail, a rare concrete-surfaced trail. This trail and a new fishing pier are accessible to people of all mobility levels. The 664 acres of wooded area contains an 881-acre dedicated nature preserve and the oldest bedrock outcropping in the state. Picnicking, hiking, horseback riding and a horseman's campground, snowmobiling, cross-country skiing, fishing and firearm and archery deer hunting are allowed by permit. The park is unique in that much of the land has been donated, and most of the materials and labor contributed by local volunteers.

Green River State Wildlife Area

One of the largest native prairie areas left in Illinois, this area is home to many endagered species of birds, plants, reptiles and insects. The 2,565 acre site is used for education programs, hiking and Class C Camping. Hunting by permit. Equestrian trail riding permitted April 15 thru October 31. Three miles west of Rt. 26 off of Maytown Rd.

Lowell Park

Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, this park boasts a 40 acre Illinois Nature Preserve and has all the amenities for picnicking and outdoor activities. Local lore credits Lowell Park teenage lifeguard Ronald Reagan with saving 77 people. Located three miles north of Dixon.

Plum Creek Gardens

The Dixon Area Garden Club in cooperation with the Dixon Park District are creating a new horticultural area just outside of town for plant and gardening enthusiasts. Phase 1 will include a formal garden, children's garden and a unique “foot-friendly" garden. Future plans include walking trails, an arboretum, and a visitor center with a library.

Temperance Hill Cemetery and Prairie Preserve

This cemetery, started in 1846, is situated on virgin prairie and an Illinois Nature Preserve. Off Rte. 52 north of Amboy, west of Rte. 52 and Inlet Rd. junction. Three crosses at the end of the drive mark the site.
